Paul Farmer

Paul FarmerPaul’s interest in music began in grade 6 when an exceptional music teacher sparked a strong interest in drumming and percussion. Paul quickly became an important member of the school band and formed his first band with some friends.

He continued his music interest in High School where he was asked to join the senior band. Paul started studying drumming with Jeff Salem at this time which was the beginning of a continuing strong relationship. He continued to play locally and after graduating from school, he partnered with another local musician and opened a music store in Georgetown. The store was mainly retail with the sale of musical instruments and related items as well as offering music lessons where Paul taught drum lessons.

After a couple of years, Paul had an opportunity to go “on the road” with various tribute and top 40 acts touring throughout Western Canada. Under the leadership of longtime friend and fellow musician Peter Christian, they played across the west, traveling as far north as Inuvik and established an excellent reputation as a professional, high quality band. They had an extensive play list covering many music styles and genres.

In 2004 the band, now called the Liza Hendrix Band, secured their first contract with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. They received excellent ratings and were offered subsequent contracts culminating in a 7 month agreement to cover Western Europe. Paul’s music knowledge grew even more diverse throughout these worldly travels.

In November 2006, he felt that a new direction was appropriate and declined several opportunities to return to the cruise lines. In and around that time, Paul was pleased to accept an offer from Jeff Salem as a drum and percussion instructor. This position allows Paul to pass on the skills and experiences he has gained over the past 15 years to a new group of aspiring drummers.
